So while browsing the Target website, I noticed that they’ve almost completely phased out the junior plus sized clothing… AND I AM PISSED! I used to buy the majority of my clothing, outerwear and swimsuits from Target. Seriously, take a look in my closet, 4 out of every 5 things is probably from Target! With that said, they used to carry a brand called Pure Energy (sizes labeled 1-4 corresponding with 1X-4X and fitting women size 16-24) which was nothing short of AMAZING for young plus sized women, and they also offered a juniors plus sized version of their brand Xhileration (which is no longer available either). I am under 30 years old, I don’t want to have to wear all of the overly mature, boring, boxy plus size options they have labeled as “woman”. Sure, I’m definitely a woman! But what the hell are the other sizes supposed to be called? Why is it that they think labeling the plus sized clothing as “woman” is appropriate? Who is making these terrible choices in advertisement? This is not acceptable. I don’t want to wear ugly, plain, “granny” clothing! Sure, there are other options out there for me such as the usual, Modcloth, Torrid, LB, asos, Forever 21+ etc., etc., but I don’t want to have to buy everything I wear online!!! I want to try a damn shirt on in the store and buy whichever fits the best, and be able to wear it that same day if I want to!!! Buying online can be tricky and expensive. Why should I have to buy all of my clothing online, when a smaller sized woman can walk into the store and buy whatever and wear whatever, and find it all in abundance, with plenty of options!? With all that said, here is the letter I emailed to Target today. Let’s see if they even care.
“Where have all of the plus sized options gone??? Target used to be my favorite place for plus size tops and swimwear. But it seems that you’re no longer carrying Pure Energy, which is a terrible loss! I bought three or four swim suits each summer in the junior’s plus from Target, because it was impossible to find flattering, pretty plus sized swimwear anywhere else, that wasn’t "granny”. I used to purchase shirts in the Pure Energy or junior plus Xhilaration ALL THE TIME. Most of the pretty tops in my closet are from those brands. But I went into my local target the other day, and was extremely disappointed to see that ALL of those options have been removed! I am under 30 years old and I don’t want to have to wear all the mature looking Mossimo plus clothing that lack style, color options, and don’t flatter many body shapes. Please come up with another way to replace the plus size juniors clothing you used to have from Xhileration and Pure Energy. My friends and I have all stopped shopping at Target now, since that was one of our only reasons to even shop Target at all! In 2011, plus sized women alone, spent more than $17.5 BILLION on clothing! Don’t you think you should appeal to that demographic as well? You will lose out on many sales without these better options for stylish, affordable, plus sized clothing. With more than 67% of the population of American women being considered plus size (sizes 14-34), I think you’re really going to miss out on a lot of young women you were appealing to with the dresses, tops, bottoms, denim, outerwear, and swimwear that you used to offer in junior’s plus sizes (or what you all had sized as 1-4) which fit and flattered a surprisingly large amount of young women! Please, please consider finding a way to offer these types of clothing again!“
This needs a signal boost.
